Prologue Addition

There was a star with locks as bright as fire,
Of the media she won’t grow tired.
She started strong on the Disney Channel,
Now she waits her sentence from the panel.
She dabbles with all of the finer things,
Like drinks, and drugs, and shiny diamond rings.
She spends her days in the finest boutiques,
She parties at all times throughout the week.
Paparazzi capture all her glamour,
What a shame she wound up in the slammer!

"Hi, I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC"
The importance of technology has changed the world’s way of thinking. In everyday situations, cell phones and computers are used in work, school, and as a form of entertainment. Technology itself has evolved to become a helpful resource for those who use it. The only problem is who the people choose, and if the wrong decision is made, their entire life may completely crash in their hands. It all comes down to the major decision, Mac or PC.
Piece-of-crap is well known for convincing buyers to buy his product based on false advertisement. Most of the things that failed-connection offers are not to the standards expected by buyers. Products from PC are known for being plain, boring, and too technical. The major focus made by techno-geek is work, rather than Mac, who focuses on i-life and creativity.
As battles continue between granny-smith and failed-connection, PC continues to slow down. With new updates and software’s for both opponents, super-mac continues to provide the people with solutions to their needs in a speedy manner. Meanwhile, plain-crash users have to deal with the occasional 112,438 viruses, spyware that reveals personal information, and daily crashes that prevents them from achieving their everyday goals.
Super-mac is determined to make life easier for users from the begging of being out of one simple white box. He provides users with many software’s that are pre-installed. Many people who have switched systems have realized the large impact made by leaving piece-of-crap. The intuitive mac-genius encourages creativity, and simple fun by the use of i-life. By being an app-giver your life becomes easier in every step of the way. When you need help with work, granny-smith is there to help you with a simple click of Microsoft Windows. When you desire to create a movie, an album, or have a video call, i-power helps you with each request without any hassle.
Life is easier with mac-genius. Constant updates of new software’s, and virus protection has kept Mac in constant protection. Mac finally won the long battle with PC, as PC finally crashed and could not re-start. Almost all piece-of-crap users are now using granny-smith technology. Users now live in a crash free environment, and can continue their lives without the worry of a virus coming to attack them once more.

Earth Without People

3 October 2012
Throughout Earth Without People, Weisman uses many forms of imagery to catch the reader’s attention. Effectively, his use of imagery has grabbed the attention of many readers, as it did mine, to pursue his readers in believing what the earth would be like without humans. He also informs the reader of scientific changes that have caused the earth to be what it is today, and what would happen if humans were to disappear today.  By using imagery, he helps specific examples from our five senses to give a mental picture of how life would truly be like without people living on it with.
Alan Weisman explained that any area that has once been inhabited would change completely within a decade or two. For example, the popular city of New York would have a “split cement within a decade, allowing water to seep in. As it, too, froze and expanded, cracks would widen. Soon, weeds such as mustard and goosegrass would invade” changing the previous appearance of the city. Alan was able to give the readers a detailed example of how life would change when uninhabited. He explains that even todays cities that are not very flammable would soon be covered by leaves from the fall and with “A dry lightening strike, … knee-high Central Park grass, would spread flames through the town,” destroying everything that was once there.
Having humans has made America lose “three times as many species of animals over 1,000 pounds as Africa does today” because of the lifestyle and impact made by humans on the earth. Alan Weisman uses imagery to convey to the readers an easy way to see his point of view, and with that being able to persuade them into his beliefs. By asking readers to put his words into a picture, he successfully persuades readers to believe that “if people were no longer present anywhere on Earth, a world-wide shakeout would follow.”

FSU College Essay Rough Draft

A learning opportunity around every corner
My mind is like an open book filled with empty pages. Learning appeals to me because I believe that there is a learning opportunity around every corner. And with every learning opportunity comes a new chapter filled with new knowledge. Regardless of your age, ethnicity or culture the opportunity to learn something new everyday is always available as long as we are open to new experiences or willing to revisit an old one with a new perspective.
Think of all the knowledge you gain every day while doing things that are part of your daily routine. I believe an adventure could surprise me at every turn. For example, a trip to the frozen yogurt store could potentially turn into a life long memory when I go with a group of friends or family. During each visit we are all exposed to new and different things. As soon as we enter I feel like all of my senses immediately go to work. There are lively, warm, cheerful colors everywhere. The smells are a combination of unique and exotic fruits, candies, and other toppings along with the variety of yogurts. You can taste the different textures uniting in your mouth to make one distinct taste. Have you ever heard of Taro flavored yogurt? How about the popping boba fruit or mochi? While you make your selections you can read the signs that provide information about these toppings and explain their health benefits.  A simple trip to buy frozen yogurt helps to give you the opportunity to learn about various toppings and enjoy your treat knowing that it is beneficial for your health.  A trip to the yogurt store around the corner becomes a learning opportunity if you enter the store believing that you can always learn something new. As Vernon Howard, an American spiritualist, once said “Always walk through life as if you have something new to learn and you will.”
Learning appeals to me because it makes life exciting and more interesting. I’ve always seemed to enjoy learning new things but perhaps more importantly, I truly enjoy sharing that knowledge with others. Talking to people about my experiences and encouraging them to share theirs with me helps me learn about other cultures and ethnicities, customs and traditions.  Your willingness to see everything as a learning opportunity will help you grow and mature. An open mind can prepare you to enjoy life and face new challenges with a positive attitude.
